New Product Brochure

A fire door is designed to help contain fire and smoke within a compartment for a specified period of time. This can help slow the spread of fire through a building and give occupants more time to evacuate safely. But the performance of a fire door doesn’t depend on the door leaf alone.
If a fire door is poorly fitted, incorrectly adjusted or installed with unsuitable components, its ability to provide the intended level of protection can be compromised. There are several key elements that need to be considered when installing a fire door.
Correct gaps and seals: Appropriate gaps around the door and correctly fitted smoke seals help prevent fire and smoke from passing through the door assembly.
Correct hardware: Hinges, closers, latches and other hardware need to be suitable for the fire doorset and installed correctly. Incorrect or poorly fitted hardware can affect how reliably the door operates and closes.
Reliable closing: A fire door needs to close fully and consistently. A door that is unable to close properly cannot provide the protection it was designed to deliver.
Correct fitting of the complete doorset: The door, frame and associated components work together as a system. Installation should follow the manufacturer’s instructions and any relevant requirements for the specific doorset.
At IG Doors, we recognise that supplying a fire-rated doorset is only part of the process. That’s why we have developed and supply our ownIgnis30 Installation Guide, providing clear guidance to help ensure our fire doors are fitted correctly.
Our guide is designed to support installers through the key stages of installation, helping to ensure the doorset is fitted in line with the requirements of the product. Every IG Doors fire door is supplied with installation instructions developed by our certified team.

A fire door is only as effective as its installation

Fire doors have an important role to play in protecting people and limiting the spread of fire and smoke. But their performance relies on the complete system working as intended.
This Fire Safety Week, we’re proud to support greater awareness of fire door safety and the importance of getting installation right.
